Charlie Appleby was appointed as a Godolphin trainer in July 2013, after 15 years working for Godolphin as a traveling head lad, stable head lad, and assistant trainer. Charlie was a keen jockey growing up, participating in a number of point-to-points and race riding on the flat as an amateur.

Moulton Paddocks is home to Frontiersman, Hawkbill and Rare Rhythm to name a few.

John Berry

John Berry

John’s been training in Newmarket since 1995 and took over Beverley House Stables in 1997. During a short-lived career as an amateur jump jockey he rode one winner over fences, notably leading home Richard Dunwoody and Venetia Williams! As a trainer, his best known horses are Largesse, Il Principe, Jack Dawson and Benedict, the winners of 32 races between them. Largesse now stands at stud for his owners Henry and Rosemary Moszkowicz and John has trained a number of his offspring, including Picot de Say, La Gessa and By Storm – all of whom have won for the stable. A keen journalist, John writes a weekly international racing column for Australia’s leading racing paper Winning Post and is a regular guest on At The Races’ international programme.



Marco Botti

In 1996 Marco Botti started his career training in Newmarket, and within a short space of time proved himself as a young trainer who was going places. Along with a passionate team at Prestige Place Stables, facilities include a treadmill, spa, horse walkers and 97 stables.



Tom Clover

Tom has recently started his training venture from the historic Wroughton House Stables, based right in the heart of Newmarket.

Since gaining his license at the end of 2016, Tom has trained two winners. He has also had a runner in the Windsor Castle Stakes at Royal Ascot, Declarationoflove, who also came second in the Super Sprint at Newbury.

Following many successful years as racing manager to Godolphin, Simon Crisford joined the Newmarket training ranks in 2015 and has made light work of the transition.


Luca Cumani

Luca arrived in Newmarket from his native Italy in his early 20s and he has been a highly successful stalwart there ever since. He has trained a multitude of Group 1 winners all over the world, including seven Classic winners, most famous of which were his two Derby winners Kahyasi (1988) and High Rise (1998).



Ed Dunlop

Son of 10 time British Classic winner, John Dunlop, Ed comes from an illustrious racing family, but he has certainly carved his own path in the sport. He has trained 29 Group and Grade 1 winners himself, including two Oaks with champion mares Ouija Board and Snow Fairy.  Red Cadeaux, his globetrotting superstar, accumulated an incredible £5 million in prizemoney, whilst Trip To Paris provided Ed his first win in the Royal Ascot Gold Cup in 2015.



James Eustace

Park Lodge Stables is home to James and Gay Eustace and is steeped in history having been first established in the 18th Century. The most famous inmate was Blue Peter who won the 2,000 Guineas and Epsom Derby in 1939.



James Fanshawe

Unquestionably one of the most respected figures on the British Turf, James has sent out a host of top class winners under both codes over a variety of distances from Pegasus Stables. Despite having only a handful of jumpers, he has managed to win the Champion Hurdle twice – with Royal Gait in 1992 and Hors La Loi III 10 years later. His flagbearers on the flat over the years have included the brilliant miler Soviet Song, top-class stayer Invermark , high-class sprinter Society Rock, and recent Diamond Jubilee winner The Tin Man.

In January 2014 Charlie joined the training ranks, and as the youngest licensed trainer in the country, the pressure was on him to prove to all of the owners that their faith had not been misplaced.



Julia Feilden

Peter Feilden trained for over 25 years, so it was hardly surprising when his daughter Julia embarked on a career in racing. After her first job as racing secretary for Clive Brittain, she decided to start training racehorses herself. Amongst Julia’s vast array of successes include Spirit of Sharjah, the multiple pattern race winner, and King Flyer who earned over £100,000 prize money during a memorable career.



Amy Murphy

Having previously worked as a Pupil Assistant to Tom Dascombe and an Assistant Trainer Luca Cumani, as well as doing a winter spell in Australia with Gai Waterhouse, Amy joined the training ranks in Autumn 2016 having learned from some of the very best in the world.



George Peckham

Prior to being assistant trainer to Ed Dunlop, George spent 3 years working for Andrew Balding and Mick Channon, followed by another two years with John O’Shea in Australia. David Simcock

His current stable star is impressive Royal Ascot winner Balios.



Richard Spencer

Richard has made a very positive start to his training career having already trainer winners for Rebel Racing this season.  This thriving combination tiumphed in the Grp 2 Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot this year with smart colt Rajasinghe.


Roger Varian

Roger’s career began when he was 13. Now in his sixth season, the winners have continued to come thick and fast as he approaches the 500 successes mark. Varian recently located to Carlburg stables on Bury Road after he took over the reins at Kremlin House in 2011 on the retirement of his mentor. Varian is a Classic-winning trainer with 14 Group 1 victories in hand. He has saddled horses in Group 1 races across Europe and in the US, including Postponed, who had 3 top grade wins added to his name in 2016.

Stuart Williams

Stuart Williams has recorded well over 500 winners since becoming a licensed racehorse trainer in 1994.

Stuart is widely respected as a shrewd trainer within the racing industry and also received the highest recognition from his peers when he was voted President of the National Trainers Federation with his inauguration in February 2011.

Visit Europe’s leading bloodstock auctioneers. A talk will take place in the main sales ring on Sunday from 11:30am – 12:30pm, where industry experts will give their views on what to look for when purchasing a racehorse.

Parking is also available at Tattersalls on both days.

National Stud

The National Stud

The National Stud is the showcase for British Thoroughbred breeding. It has been owned by the Jockey Club since 2008. It comprises over 500 acres of prime pastureland on the edge of Newmarket. Its facilities include accomodation for eight stallions and up to 200 mares in nine seperate yards.

The National Stud will be operating escorted bus tours during the open weekend, these are free of charge for holders of open weekend wristlets.  Tour start times are each day; 11am, 12pm, 1pm and 2pm.


Jockey Clubs Rooms

When: Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th September // Where: 101 High Street, Newmarket

Tours of the Jockey Club Rooms are available to all NOW visitors for £5pp each day (Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th September). Each tour will last approximately one hour and will explore the fascinating history of Newmarket, British racing and the Jockey Club. The Jockey Club Rooms is home to a stunning collection of British sporting art and historic racing memorabilia – a must see for any racing fan.

Jockey Club Rooms will not be taking any advance reservations, ALL tours, will be conducted on a First Come First Served Basis.

Tours are limited to around the 30-35 people

Tour times on each day are as follows:

Tour 1: 9.30am – 10.30am (Tea and Coffee from 9:00am)

Tour 2: 11.00am  – 12 Noon (Tea and Coffee from 10.30am)

Tour 3: 12.30pm – 1.30pm (Tea and Coffee from 12.00 Noon)

The aim of the School is to provide purpose built facilities to promote and encourage young people who had the potential to ride as professional jockeys. Visit the school on Saturday to see some of the students going through their paces.

National Heritage Centre for Horseracing & Sporting Art

The National Heritage Centre for Horseracing & Sporting Art will be open on both days. Access to The Kings Yard at the National Heritage centre is free for NOW wristband holders. Rossdales is an internationally-renowned equine veterinary practice, providing comprehensive services to trainers, stud farms, sports horse and leisure horse owners. Our equine hospital and diagnostic centre is led by specialists and we see horses and ponies referred by practices throughout the UK, Europe and further afield.
Rossdales is open on Sunday 17th September to all NOW visitors from 9:30am – 1:00pm.
Tours will take place at 10am, 11am and 12pm on Sunday 17th September.

NEH is a world renowned specialist veterinary centre providing services for horses throughout the UK, Europe and internationally. Our veterinary surgeons specialise in different areas to provide comprehensive services for racehorses, breeding services, sports and leisure horses, and exports and sales.  Tours will be given around the NEH on Saturday 16th September between 9.30am and 12.30pm . Tours take place at 10am, 11am and 12pm.
