Following many successful years as racing manager to Godolphin, Simon Crisford joined the Newmarket training ranks in 2015 and has made light work of the transition.  This year he has enjoyed multiple success, including his first Royal Ascot winner.


Ed Dunlop

Son of 10 time British Classic winner, John Dunlop, Ed comes from an illustrious racing family, but he has certainly carved his own path in the sport. He has trained 29 Group and Grade 1 winners himself, including two Oaks with champion mares Ouija Board and Snow Fairy.  Red Cadeaux, his globetrotting superstar, accumulated an incredible £5 million in prizemoney, whilst Trip To Paris provided Ed his first win in the Royal Ascot Gold Cup in 2015.



James Eustace

Park Lodge Stables is home to James and Gay Eustace and is steeped in history having been first established in the 18th Century. The most famous inmate was Blue Peter who won the 2,000 Guineas and Epsom Derby in 1939.



James Fanshawe

Unquestionably one of the most respected figures on the British Turf, James has sent out a host of top class winners under both codes over a variety of distances from Pegasus Stables. Despite having only a handful of jumpers, he has managed to win the Champion Hurdle twice – with Royal Gait in 1992 and Hors La Loi III 10 years later. His flagbearers on the flat over the years have included the brilliant miler Soviet Song, top-class stayer Invermark , high-class sprinter Society Rock, and recent Diamond Jubilee winner The Tin Man.



Charlie Fellowes

In January 2014 Charlie joined the training ranks, and as the youngest licensed trainer in the country, the pressure was on him to prove to all of the owners that their faith had not been misplaced.

Charlie has had one of his best seasons to date with globe trotter Prince of Arran flying the stable flag worldwide.  Other recent winners in his care  include Snazzy, Carolinae, and Crimson Rosette.



Amy Murphy

Having previously worked as a Pupil Assistant to Tom Dascombe and an Assistant Trainer to Luca Cumani, as well as doing a winter spell in Australia with Gai Waterhouse, Amy joined the training ranks in Autumn 2016 having learned from some of the very best in the world.

Amy has since placed herself as one of the leading young dual purpose trainers in the country. Last year her stable star Kalashnikov placed runner up twice at Grade 1 company, including at the Cheltenham Festival, and won the Grade 3 Betfair Hurdle at Newbury.

Amy and her team are very excited to welcome you to her new yard, Southgate Stables, on the Hamilton Road.



Rae Guest

From a well-known racing family (brother Richard won the Grand National on Red Marauder, sister Jane was married to Sir Henry Cecil and another sister, Sally, was a successful amateur rider as Sally Eddery) Rae is best known for his prowess at training fillies. He particularly enjoys training generations of horses for his owner/breeder clients and his knowledge of the family’s traits and idiosyncrasies can be invaluable.



George Peckham

Prior to being assistant trainer to Ed Dunlop, George spent 3 years working for Andrew Balding and Mick Channon, followed by another two years with John O’Shea in Australia. George is now making a name for himself in the training ranks after gaining knowledge and experience from some of the best in the world.

David Simcock

Since starting out in 2004, David has established himself as one of the leading trainers in the country having landed multiple Group and Grade 1 successes with the likes of I’m A Dreamer, Madame Chiang, Sheikhzayedroad, Trade Storm and of course Dream Ahead who was crowned Europe’s champion sprinter in 2011. His current stable star is impressive Lightning Spear.



Richard Spencer

Richard and his team are looking forward to welcoming to his new yard, the historic Sefton Lodge Stables, on the Bury Road this Open Weekend. Richard and Rebel Racing are once again having a brilliant season, with Richard listed as one of the top three two-year-old winning trainers in the country.

An injury this year called on the retirement of Grp 2 Coventry Stakes winner Rajasinghe. Spirits though were lifted thanks to stable star Rumble Inthejungle who ran a very credible fourth in the Coventry, before winning the Grp 3 Molecomb Stakes at Goodwood in great style.



Roger Varian

Roger and his team at Carlburg Stables on Bury Road look forward to seeing you on Sunday of the Open Weekend. Roger has saddled horses in Group 1 races across Europe and in the US, including the top class Postponed.

Phil has been based in Newmarket for over 15 years now and alongside his wife, Becky, has been heading up what is very much a family operation at Racefield Stables since 2010.

Stuart Williams

Stuart Williams has recorded well over 500 winners since becoming a licensed racehorse trainer in 1994.

Stuart is widely respected as a shrewd trainer within the racing industry and also received the highest recognition from his peers when he was voted President of the National Trainers Federation with his inauguration in February 2011.

Visit Europe’s leading bloodstock auctioneers. A talk will take place in the main sales ring on Sunday at 12pm.  Top bloodstcok agent Tom Goff and trainers, John Gosden and David Simcock, will chat about pedigrees and horse conformation.

Parking is also available at Tattersalls on both days.

National Stud

The National Stud

The National Stud is the showcase for British Thoroughbred breeding. It has been owned by the Jockey Club since 2008. It comprises over 500 acres of prime pastureland on the edge of Newmarket. Its facilities include accomodation for eight stallions and up to 200 mares in nine seperate yards.

The National Stud will be operating escorted bus tours during the open weekend, these are free of charge for holders of open weekend wristlets.

Jockey Clubs Rooms

Tours of the Jockey Club Rooms are available to all NOW visitors for £5pp (Sunday only). Each tour will last approximately one hour and will explore the fascinating history of Newmarket, British racing and the Jockey Club. The Jockey Club Rooms is home to a stunning collection of British sporting art and historic racing memorabilia – a must see for any racing fan.

Jockey Club Rooms will not be taking any advance reservations, ALL tours, will be conducted on a First Come First Served Basis.


British Racing School

The aim of the School is to provide purpose built facilities to promote and encourage young people who had the potential to ride as professional jockeys. Visit the school on Saturday to see some of the students going through their paces.

Rossdales is an internationally-renowned equine veterinary practice, providing comprehensive services to trainers, stud farms, sports horse and leisure horse owners. Our equine hospital and diagnostic centre is led by specialists and we see horses and ponies referred by practices throughout the UK, Europe and further afield.
Rossdales is open Saturday. Tours will take place on rotation – approx. every 15/20 minutes.
